True North Aid Goes To Attawapiskat
Updated Wednesday, April 8, 2010
Two rented trucks headed out Sunday, April 4 to take food and donated items to Attawapiskat!
One left from Niagara Falls, Ontario and the other from Ottawa, Ontario. Bob, Sherri and Wesley (photo at right) Prankard are on board the one heading out from Niagara Falls, Ontario and the other truck left from Ottawa around the same time and is being driven by Reynold Quinton (photo below). Both are loaded with groceries and donated items. We have also asked Reynold to take some camera gear so you can see what they see and find out how your donations are helping.
Saturday, four of us loaded the Ottawa truck with non-perishable items such as rice, canned fruit, powdered milk, flour, coffee, hot chocolate, cooking oil, canned vegetables, pasta, bedding, etc. etc. and on Sunday morning, the donated items were loaded up as well.
The two teams met in Timmins, Ontario and over-nighted there. Although there was heavy fog Monday morning, they were able to fly to Attawapiskat in the afternoon. If you click on the underlined word 'Attawapiskat' (above left), you will see why they had to fly in...
In Timmins, the goods will be off-loaded and then flown to Attawapiskat by Air Creebec who has rallied to help the people of Attiwapiskat and volunteered to fly in the supplies at no cost!
To you who have contributed to this very worthwhile cause - we thank you! Your kindness will make a real difference to the people of this remote northern community.
UPDATE: The Attawapiskat teams have reached home safely an want to thank all the people of this remote community for making them feel so welcome! We're going to work on putting together more help and will be back as soon as possible!
