TrueNorthAid is a nonprofit organization founded in March of 2009, by Director Rachael McIntyre. Rachael has been involved in various humanitarian aid projects internationally for over 10 years. After doing hands-on aid work in countries such as Russia, Guatemala, Burundi, South Africa and Arctic Canada, she moved to New York City in 2006 to gain practical experience in the administrative ‘behind-the-scenes’ work that accompanies a career in the nonprofit sector. She interned for the Missions Department of Times Square Church in Manhattan until 2008, working primarily with ChildCry, a feeding program responsible for providing food for children in over 16 countries. It was during this time that Rachael learned everything from fundraising and web development to trip research and coordination. After being offered a permanent full-time position, it came time for her to decide whether to make New York City her new home. Instead, the Ottawa native decided to move back to Canada to apply the knowledge she had gained over the course of her time in the United States.
