POLAR RUN TO PEAWANUCK PROJECT
TRANSPORTATION FUNDING NEEDED
With the support of Relay For Hunger, True North Aid is helping to send much needed supplies to one of the most remote communities in northern Ontario. Peawanuck, (Flinstone in Cree) is home to the Weenusk peoples. Originally from Winisk, (near the mouth of the Winisk River) a river flood disaster in 1986 forced them 30Km up the river to higher ground establishing a new community in 7 months. Serviced only by air, and the Wapusk (Cree for Polar Bear) Ice Road in Feb/March, they are an under serviced community and could use some help. Relay for Hunger (Lola Lawton) has collected much of the supplies needed and True North Aid is working to help with transportation and the purchase of additional food and other supplies.
